After 20 years the pump went out on my original one. That's the amount of time Rip Van Winkle fell asleep so I am cool with it.Considered newer, cheaper knock offs offered on Facebook but reliability was a concern and Technivorm's is clearly proven.Never goes on sale significantly so took the plunge! Here in Chicago we have many excellent small batch local roasters who ship directly to your house (Sputnik Coffee and Metropolis shout out!) and so my tastes have evolved in their refinement so $330 was totally worth it. (Heck that's my teenage daughter's 4 month Starbucks bill!). Happy Coffee Nirvana fellow coffee aficionados!

I got the ss carafe version because I wanted to have the ability to slide my coffee mug in place and simply fill it with my morning brew. That works flawlessly. The caveat for this machine is that it releases a lot of water with high pressure, pushing the grounds out of the way and not allowing them to fully immerse with the hot water. Therefore, you either need to use more grounds than necessary or stir them as the water fills the grounds holder. One more thing I found. This may be a feature of all coffee makers, but the water reservoir retains a bit of water after the brew. I inadvertently discovered this one day. If I'm making coffee everyday in this machine, this may not be a problem. But I don't. I also use a French press on some days, or skip the home brew all together. And the water left within the reservoir is no small amount. Feels like this could become stagnant and affect the taste of the coffee over time.
